Dr. George C. Anderson
Dr. George C. Anderson is the seventh Senior Pastor in the history of Second Presbyterian Church (Roanoke, VA). He began preaching at Second on February 22, 1998. Previously, he had been the Senior Minister at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS, and an Associate Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN. He is a graduate of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC, and Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA. Dr. Anderson is involved in every aspect of church life with an emphasis on preaching, teaching, visiting, and staff oversight.
George and his wife, Millie, have three daughters: Paige, Rachel, and Virginia. Virginia became a new mother to daughter Emory on November 1, 2017.

The Reverend Elizabeth N.H. Link
Associate Pastor for Christian Education
The Rev. Elizabeth N.H. Link joined the staff of Second Presbyterian in August 2011. She attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC, where she majored in religion, Christian education, and history. Following graduation, she served First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, FL, and subsequently recognized the call to ordained ministry. In 2009, Elizabeth earned a Master of Divinity degree from Union-PSCE. Afterwards, she served as a Lake Fellow in Parish Ministry, at Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, IN.
Elizabeth's parents and younger brother still reside in her hometown of Greer, SC. Elizabeth (nee Howell) married Chris Link in May 2013, and they are expecting a daughter in April 2018..

The Reverend Rachel C. Thompson
Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults
The Rev. Rachel C. Thompson is a 2015 graduate of Duke Divinity School, where she enjoyed the benefits of studying under world class biblical scholars, fell in love with the Reformed tradition, and discerned a call to ministry. Prior to her time at Duke, Rachel did her undergraduate work at Furman University, where she majored in Classics and Sociology. After graduating from seminary, Rachel spent a year working as a chaplain in the Heart Center at Duke University Hospital. She joined the staff at Second Presbyterian in June of 2016. Her parents still live in her hometown of Arlington, VA, and her younger brother is studying international relations in London, England.

Dr. William R. Klein
Dr. William R. Klein, our distinguished Pastor Emeritus, served as Senior Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church from 1968-1991. He was born in Atlanta, GA, and received his BA from Davidson College, a BD from Union Theological Seminary (Richmond, VA), and his DD from Hampden-Sydney College.
Bill resides in Roanoke, VA. He and his now-deceased wife, Dorothy (Dot) MacLeod, raised two married sons, both graduates of Hampden-Sydney and Union Theological Seminary: David Alan is Dean of Students at Hampden-Sydney College and William Murdoch (Bill) is Pastor of Lexington Presbyterian Church in Lexington, VA. Bill also has seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mark B. Wigginton
Church Business Administrator
Effective Saturday, January 28, 2017, we officially welcomed Mark Wigginton to his new position at Second Presbyterian. He had been working alongside retiring Phillip Boggs to become acquainted with the church, and we are delighted to welcome him to the Second Pres family! He is a Virginia Tech alumnus and has a background in banking and insurance. The March issue of Second Sheet (2017) featured an article about Mark so you can get to know him better.

Part-time Financial Secretary
Cindy Sowers joined the staff of Second Presbyterian Church in January 2017 as the part-time financial secretary. She comes to us with over 25 years of accounting service and has worked in the banking, education, public accounting, and entertainment fields. She is a native Roanoker but later moved to Vinton and has been there the rest of the time. She is married, and has two childen and three granddaughters, ages 10, 9, and 7. She recently semi-retired and is enjoying more time with the family, biking, reading, gardening, and traveling.

Executive Secretary and Pastor's Secretary
Stacy Moore received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Hollins College. She has worked at Second Presbyterian in various capacities since 1998. Other work experience includes Mill Mountain Theatre, Roanoke County Public Schools, and Salem Red Sox Baseball.
Stacy's favorite hobby is spending time with (and spoiling) her niece.

Sally A. Gravely
Communications Director and Webmaster
Sally Gravely received a BS in Mass Communications (Magazine Journalism Sequence) from Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, VA) and also attended Mary Washington College (Fredericksburg, VA). Before coming to Second Presbyterian in 2002, she worked 16 years for the YWCA of Roanoke Valley (Associate Director) and eight years at Heironimus (Head Copywriter/ Coordinator). Active over the years with the Advertising Federation of Roanoke Valley, Ad2, United Way, Showtimers, and other groups, she is a Roanoke native and a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. She finds enjoyment in writing, reading, travel, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Jeffrey R. Sandborg
Dr. Jeffrey R. Sandborg holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Literature from the University of Illinois. He also received his Master's of Music from the University of Illinois. He now serves as Professor of Music and Choir Director at Roanoke College, Director of the Roanoke Valley Choral Society, and Director of Canticum Novum Chamber Singers.
Jeff is married to Marianne Sandborg, our organist and soloist, and he has been with Second Presbyterian since 1987. Click on picture at left for another photograph.

Marianne M. Sandborg
Organist and Soloist
Marianne M. Sandborg is Resident Artist at Roanoke College, where she teaches voice, and is also organist and soloist here at Second Presbyterian. A lyric soprano, she has performed with Opera Roanoke, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Roanoke Valley Choral Society and Orchestra, Blacksburg Master Chorale, and Salem Choral Society. Marianne and her husband, Jeffrey, were the 1998 winners of the Perry F. Kendig Award for Excellence in the Arts. She was a semifinalist in the New York Oratorio Competition and the Yrjö Kilpinen International Voice Competition and was first prize winner in the Philadelphia Cathedral/Diana Barnhart American Art Song Competition. Marianne is included in the 2005-6 International Who's Who of Professionals® and 2004-5 Who's Who Among America's Teachers®, and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Roanoke Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Children's and Youth Music Director
Originally from TX, Kristen holds a Master of Music in Musical Theatre Performance from New York University Steinhardt and a Bachelor of Music Education in Choral/Classical Voice with Minors in Piano and Religion from Baylor University. Children's and Youth Music Director since 2016, she has directed the Youth Choir since 2012 and now also directs the 3rd-5th Grade Choir and Youth Instrumental Ensemble. Teaching includes SPC Preschool, Roanoke Children's Theatre, Roanoke City Public Schools Middle School Choir, and Ferrum College and NYU Adjunct Faculty for Voice and Musical Theatre. Performing includes Carrington Kay, Roanoke Children's Theatre, Mill Mountain Theatre, Opera Roanoke, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Preschool/Kindergarten Choir Director
Alison Conte is the Preschool/Kindergarten Choir Director. She taught preschool music at First Presbyterian and Noah’s Landing in Roanoke. Alison is a member of the Christian Education Committee and a flower arranger for Sunday services. She attends the Montreat Worship and Music Conference each summer with a group of adults, senior high, and middle high youth from Second. Alison is a member of the professional organizations PAM and Choristers Guild.

Chilldren's and Youth Music Accompanist
Patricia Clevenger earned a Master of Arts in Vocal Performance from Radford University and a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University. She has taught General Music at the elementary and middle school levels, and was a middle and high school choral director. She was an adjunct voice teacher at Hollins University for six years. Pattie is currently an adjunct voice teacher at Roanoke College and teaches private voice and piano lessons. She is a member of the Chancel Choir at Second Presbyterian and has worked with the children’s choirs for over five years.
Pattie resides with her husband Todd and their children Lilli and Patrick.

Nichole earned a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Virginia Tech and a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Radford University. She has also earned her Level I Orff-Schulwerk certification from Appalachian State. Nichole moved to Roanoke in 2006 to start her dream job of teaching elementary music. She currently is a ringer for the hand bell choir and has worked with the children's groups subbing over the last several years and is very excited to be full-time this year! She also is a current member of NAfME and AOSA.
Nichole is married to husband Brandon and they have a son, Andrew.
The Rev. M. Ellen Anderson, BCC
Parish Associate for Visitation
Ellen is a Board-Certified Chaplain and she comes to us via the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, after moving to Roanoke in the fall of 2013. She previously served at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, as well as other institutions. Raised in Atlanta, GA, Ellen will be working on a part-time basis, visiting with church members.

The Rev. Dr. David A. Dickerson

David’s most recent call was the Presbyterian Church in Radford. He is married to Patsy, and they have four children. They just welcomed the first grandchild to the fold, a new grandson, Anders Montague Dickerson, who was born September 8, 2017, to their son Patrick Dickerson and his wife, Ariel Hendrickson, of Apex, NC).
Coordinator of Shared Ministries
As part of a pilot project, a new part-time position was created in 2014. Ann Lawson now serves as Coordinator of Shared Ministries, to help members and visitors find ways to explore their faith through meaningful involvement in the church. This position is introduced as a means of helping the church live out its mission statement: "Finding Direction by Following Jesus." Ann was chosen because of her personal gifts in working with volunteers, combined with her inside-out knowledge of congregational life.

Meet Ashley Underwood, our newest church custodian at Second Presbyterian Church, who started on staff in 2016. She comes to us with a number of years' experience working for her mother's cleaning business. When you see her keeping Second spic and span, please share a gracious "Welcome Ashley!"
Michael Nester came on board at Second Presbyterian in May 2012, and has since married. He enjoys spending time with family, going to church, and working here at SPC! He brings with him over 20 years of experience in this line of work. Another occupation that keeps him busy is refereeing adult softball games for Roanoke County, and he has done that for the past 12 years.
Glen Powers, II
Welcome to Glen Powers, II, who has taken on the work of church sexton held by his father before him. We are fortunate to have him available to take on the mantle of his father who is so missed by the congregation after he died in January of 2017.
John Tarta moved to Roanoke in 1977 with his wife Joy and two daughters, Heather and Holly. He now has two wonderful grandsons also. John worked at Tultex (Roanoke Fashions) as Maintenance Diriector until it closed due to The Great Flood of 1985. After that, he worked at On Target as Store Manager for five years. Later, he worked for the YMCA as the Building and Grounds Director, up until 2007 when he semi-retired. His wife retired in 2009 and now they spend a whole lot of time fishing together.
