William R. Klein Columbarium

For ages the church has provided space for the burial of the dead. In modern urban life this tradition was almost lost. Now it is being recaptured across America. Our columbarium provides for our loved ones an eternal resting place within the shadow of the church. This is a hallowed setting, made sacred by the memory of those who have loved this church, have departed from our midst, and now abide with Christ our Lord. Located on our premises, the columbarium is a constant reminder that in Christ not even death can separate us from one another.

Purpose

The purpose of the columbarium is to provide a place for the permanent preservation of cremains for church members and their families who choose cremation. Included as part of our columbarium is a memorial tablet to honor loved ones who are interred elsewhere.

Description

Our columbarium is located immediately behind the chancel and the choir room. It provides 330 niches which hold two urns. After interment, each is covered with a bronze plaque giving the name(s) of the deceased and the dates of birth and death.

The columbarium is named in honor of William R. Klein, since it was during his tenure as pastor of Second Presbyterian Church that the conception, design, and construction of the columbarium were accomplished.

Arrangements

Upon receipt of a written application together with the specified cost, the church issues a certificate entitling the subscriber to the use of a particular niche or niches; otherwise, at the time of death the next available niche is assigned. Those eligible for a niche are members or former members of Second Presbyterian Church and their families.
The certificate issued when arrangements for a niche are made outlines the obligations of both the church and the subscriber. It is part of the agreement that no one other than Second Presbyterian Church shall have any property rights to any part of the columbarium.

Second Presbyterian Church will maintain accurate records for the columbarium showing all uses and reservations for future use.

Memorial Service

A memorial service for the deceased can be arranged at any time mutually convenient to the family and the church. Memorial services are subject to the discretion of the ministers of Second Presbyterian Church.

Visitors Are Welcome

The William R. Klein Columbarium is open during the worship and office hours of the church. You are invited to plan a visit to the columbarium by calling the church office where additional information is available.
