Some Concerns Related Exclusively to Adults on the Team:

The Bibles & Bricks team is a multigenerational experience. Even those persons who are part of the construction component will be spending much time around our young people. That’s a plus. However, we discovered on our first trip that this multigenerational aspect makes the issue of alcohol consumption ambiguous. While at the guesthouse in San Juan, we are guests of Solid Rock and refrain from the consumption of alcoholic beverages. One the way to and from San Juan, we are part of a culture where alcohol is freely consumed and freely available (quite literally at the resort on the final night). If this were a trip with predominantly adult participants, our approach would be different. But since this is a trip with a large youth component, we ask “up front” that everyone refrain from the consumption of alcohol during the entire trip.

Also, it’s standard policy at Second to complete criminal background checks on any adult who works with our children and youth. That policy applies to this trip, so we will ask you for information to perform that check if you have not been screened while serving Second in another capacity.
